In addition to yoga classes that focused on active yoga postures for healthy people, Mr. Iyengar (founder of Iyengar Yoga in India, our mentor and great teacher) conducted special therapeutic classes for those with variety of ailments. Many have been referred to those classes by their doctors.
At the Yoga Home of Therapeutics, we offer active yoga classes as well as special Focus classes, too, for those suffering from various ailments that I mentioned above.
Regardless of the trigger, stress is often accompanied by one or more negative effects- impatience, frustration, irritation, anger, muscle tension, headache, indigestion, or poor elimination. When stress becomes chronic, it can lead into disease. The antidote to stress is relaxation. To relax is to rest deeply. To rest deeply is to put the body in a comfortable position with the gentle attention to the breath. Relaxation happens when there is no movement, no effort, and the brain is quiet. Body and mind are connected. When mind and body intercept, healing happens.
What is Restorative yoga and how is it done?
1. These movements show the age-old wisdom and science of yoga that teaches well-being is promoted by a healthy spine. The spine is therefore moves in all direction to achieve just that.
2. Props such as blankets, bolsters, blocks, chairs and the wall is used to position the body in the pose in the most comfortable and gentle way.
3. The poses are held for as long as 20 minutes at a time to soothe the nervous system and the organs of our bodies.
What is therapeutic yoga?
Just for that reason, I have produced a
Guided Relaxation CD ( my voice only) for you, my friend. This CD is a tool
to help you relax and renew and to take time to be with you. It is to
provide space for you to be able to separate from your everyday life,
circumstances and situations. It is to create a state of mind so that your
body can feel safe and to be allowed to do what it does best: to heal
itself. Listening to my 20 minute guided relaxation CD will allow you to set
aside time to deepen your relationship with you and to calm your mind, body
and nervous system. It is to bring you to the “now” of yourself.
That is a form of healing and relaxation.
Do we have the props for sale?
Inspired by a Native American legend, the Raindrop Technique has been used for many years as highly effective method for balancing and rejuvenating the mind and body. When properly applied to the neck, back and feet, these essential therapeutic pure oils (9 different oils) can bring about electrical alignment and help relieve a variety of discomforts caused by imbalances in the body, especially those found in the spine. RT is now being explored in a number of scientific studies-that many types of scoliosis and spinal misalignments are caused by viruses or bacteria that lie dormant along the spine. These pathogens create inflammation which in turn controls and disfigures the spinal column. You will receive a thorough massage of your back and neck and your feet. At the end, a hot towel will be place on your back to help soothe and comfort you while I a do a Reiki Session.
